The driver of a stolen car fled from a crash on Nelson St last night after rear-ending another car and shunting it off the road.
Constable Michelle Stagg said the accident happened about 10.20pm when a Ford vehicle drove into the back of another car on Nelson St, in Blenheim.
The victim's car was shunted off the road, causing extensive damage to both vehicles and leaving them undriveable, Miss Stagg said.
The driver of the Ford then ran off without checking on the condition of the driver in the other car, she said.
The Ford had been stolen from Holdaway St, in Blenheim, on Tuesday or Wednesday, she said.
A police dog unit tracked a man to property on Nelson St where he was arrested about 10.30pm.
When he was searched by police they found a pair of scissors, which the man said he was carrying for protection, Miss Stagg said.
A 26-year-old man has been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failure to stop and ascertain an injury and possession of an offensive weapon and will appear before the Blenheim District Court today.
