A stolen yacht was picked up off the coast of Marlborough yesterday, police say.
Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said the maritime police unit found the stolen 11.9 metre yacht Inchwood heading south near Robinson Pt, near Port Underwood, after an alert for the missing boat had been issued on maritime radio.
Police arrested a man on board the yacht at 3.15pm on two charges of theft of a boat and one for unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
Police believe the man had also stolen a Subaru motor vehicle from Christchurch on August 28, before it was driven to Picton. Early on Friday he went to the beach at Ngakuta Bay where an inflatable dinghy was rowed out to the Inchwood. The inflatable was tied the yacht, which was sailed out of the bay and south towards Kaikoura.
A 29-year-old Christchurch male labourer was to appear in Blenheim District Court today in relation to the incident.
