Pruners face deportation

A Chinese man and woman who came into New Zealand on visas that said they were hairdressers are to be deported after being found working illegally as pruners in Marlborough.

Constable Michelle Stagg, of Blenheim, said the 38-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were arrested by police about 8.35pm Wednesday night.

An Immigration New Zealand spokeswoman said the pair arrived in New Zealand in September 2011 on long-term business visas granted to allow them to set up a hairdressing salon. The visas expired in January 2012.
