Retail spending in Marlborough rose 2.5 per cent in August, latest Paymark figures show.
Nationally, spending for the month jumped 5.5 per cent. In Marlborough, although the value increased 2.5 per cent, volume rose 2.2 per cent.
Last August, Marlborough spent $35.7 million with retailers using Paymark; this August the figure was $36.6m.
Paymark processes more than 75 per cent of the electronic transactions in New Zealand's retail sector.
There was a strong showing by South Island regions in the August figures. Southland was up 9.8 per cent for value of transactions, West Coast 9.7 per cent, Canterbury 9.4 per cent, South Canterbury 8.7 per cent, Otago 5.8 per cent and Nelson 4.6 per cent.
