Light fitting causes fire

Blenheim volunteer firefighters were called out to a shop in Market St yesterday after a light fitting caught fire.

Chief fire officer Rob Dalton said two appliances arrived about 4.30pm at the Travelshop Cyber Cafe.

The fire had already been extinguished by the time they arrived.

Firefighters checked the area to make sure it was safe and left after about 15 minutes, Mr Dalton said.

The owners had turned off the lights and an electrician had checked the building, he said.
