Picton Library has a huge range of activities to keep children occupied during the school holidays including an educational scavenger hunt and a literacy wall.
Library staff have organised the Picton Passport to Fun challenge, in conjunction with the Blenheim Library, for all ages to encourage them to travel around Picton while learning during the school holidays which run from October 1 to October 19.
The passport features 14 locations which participants will need to visit to answer questions to complete the challenge which covers Picton, Rarangi Beach and as far south as Pollard Park, Blenheim.
Children's librarian Lynnaire Woods said the library wanted to play an active role in helping children to make the most of their school holidays.
"It's something to get you out and about in the community and enjoying all our lovely area has to offer."
A highlight will be the Tuesday challenge which requires participants to travel to Waikawa Bay and wave to yacht club members who race in the evenings.
"Hopefully, they will be able to wave to some sailors they know."
Easier challenges include going to Karaka Point and finding out which chief Te Rae O Te Karaka was named after.
Once you have your answers, take the passport back to the library to get one of the library's visa stamps, she said.
The library will also host The Wall challenge for year 7 to year 13 students who will need to read a book and write their name on a paper brick wall. Under every brick is a prize ranging from lollipops to book vouchers.
"We really want to encourage the kids to come in to the library.
"It's all free and it'll give them something to do that they can enjoy in the holidays."
