More than 400 gymnasts will be among about 2500 people flocking to Blenheim this week for the National Artistic Gymnastics Championships at Marlborough Lines Stadium.
The event begins tomorrow after apparatus is set up today. Fifteen provinces will be represented in age groups from 10 years old to 27 in a variety of categories.
Run by GymSports New Zealand with logistical assistance from many volunteers both from Marlborough and Canterbury, the Blenheim Gymnastics Club is represented by six athletes headed by top-ranked competitor Anna Tempero.
She's in the Step 10 competition, one of the most competitive at the event and expectations are for her to perform well.
Others from the Blenheim club competing in various levels are Maddison Buscke, Anna Griggs, Judith Marfell, Oliver Lawson and Henry Aitken, while Izzy Cowlishaw is reserve in Step 5. Most of the Blenheim athletes are all part of the Top of the South team competing while Step 10 is an individual all-round competition which Tempero is contesting.
Competition begins tomorrow at 10.15am following warmups. On Thursday the action begins at 8am, Friday at 8.50am and on Saturday competition kicks off at 8.45am.
Public spectators are welcome at the competition.
