Teen punches police officer
A Blenheim police officer was punched in the head and pushed in the chest by a 16 year-old boy on Wednesday afternoon, police say.
Police were called to Seymour Square, Blenheim, when a fight broke out between the teenager and another man, said constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim.
When police arrived on the scene, the fight had broken up and both men had gone their separate ways, Mr Holdaway said.
The teenager became aggressive when police approached him in Market St and informed him he was under arrest for fighting in a public place, Mr Holdaway said.
He then pushed the police officer and punched him in the face. The blow was deflected and did not have much of an impact, Mr Holdaway said.
The teenager was charged with fighting in a public place, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer and has been referred to the Blenheim Youth section, Mr Holdaway said
