Driver back at work a day after his truck was hit
A delivery truck driver was back at work the night after a car smashed into his vehicle doing more than 100kmh in a Blenheim 50kmh zone.
Express Couriers spokesman Aaron Hanson said the Roadstar driver was shaken but unhurt because his trailer unit took most of the impact of the crash.
Roadstar is part of Express Couriers Ltd, a subsidiary of New Zealand Post.
A Subaru Impreza car was doing more than 100kmh in a 50kmh zone during a police chase in Blenheim late on Friday night before crashing into the oncoming truck.
Police said the three men involved - the 23-year-old driver of the Subaru, his male passenger, both from Blenheim, and the truck driver - all walked away from the crash in Sinclair St, which is part of State Highway 1, about 11pm.
Alcohol was believed to have been a factor, police said.
Mr Hanson said the delivery driver was extremely fortunate the Subaru hit the rear of the truck. "At that sort of speed it could have been a nightmare with terrible results," he said.
Police are investigating the crash and awaiting the blood sample results for the driver of the Subaru.
