A Blenheim bar must close for 48 hours from Friday for allowing minors and intoxicated people on the premises.

Police applied to the Liquor Licensing Authority to suspend the on-licence of the Builders and the Loft and the general managers certificate of Gary William Smith after failing three separate compliance visits from June 30.

According to the authority's decision, police officers found three minors at the bar during a compliance visit on June 30.

On August 26, police officers saw a patron leaving the bar at 3am in a heavily intoxicated state despite earlier removing the man and speaking to door staff and Mr Smith.

In a third compliance visit on September 11, police found underage teenagers on the premises.

Mr Smith had agreed to the suspension of the on-license for 48 hours and manager's certificate for 20 days from November 5.
