Havelock School pupils showed off their animals and then their strength during the school's annual spring festival and pet day on Friday.

Pupils displayed their chickens, goats, horses and other farm animals on the school field until a quick snap of hail forced the cancellation of the grand parade in the morning.

The sun returned after lunch, and the children celebrated with sack and egg races, an airbound version of bobbing for apples, and a tug-of-war challenge.

Major award winners in the pet day competition were Harvey Brownlee in the junior section, Ella King in the intermediate and Ella Donald in the seniors.
