Aragorn enjoys time out

Aragorn appears to be happily making friends with his new neighbours, a herd of cows

Nelson's feisty swan Aragorn is being left alone to settle into his new home in Kaikoura after being captured on Monday.

The swan, renowned for attacking dogs and children, was taken to Kaikoura Adventure Park, which also acts as Kaikoura Wildlife Rescue looking after injured animals.

Kaikoura Adventure Park owner Lynda Pharazyn said yesterday Aragorn was calm and relaxed on arrival, after travelling about three hours in a cage.

He is being kept in a paddock near dams, but set back on the 186-hectare park away from the public glare.

''I think he's made it quite clear that he just wants to be a swan,'' Mrs Pharazyn said.

She had already posted an update on Facebook and added pictures of Aragorn in his new home.

She would regularly write updates on the Kaikoura Adventure Park Facebook page.

The park was also home to black swans, but Mrs Pharazyn was on the lookout for a female white swan so Aragorn had a chance at mating.
