Warm up time

More than 400 children ran and pedalled through Brancott Vineyard in Marlborough yesterday during the Earthcare Environmental Marlborough Kids Duathlon.

The Earthcare Environmental Marlborough Kids Duathlon is all about participation, committee chairwoman Nicky Cameron-Dunn said.

The event, in its sixth year, was run at Brancott Vineyard, at Fairhall, yesterday.

"It was a really positive day, everyone really enjoyed themselves," Mrs Cameron-Dunn said.

About 420 children aged between 5 and 17 registered for the duathlon, where they tackle one of two courses. The short course involved a 1-kilometre run or walk, a 3km bike ride, and another 1km run or walk. The longer course involved a 2km run or walk, a 5.5km bike ride and a 1km bike or walk.

There were no winners in the event, as it was about crossing the finish line, Mrs Cameron-Dunn said. "It's all about promoting kids being active and participating in physical activity.

"Everyone's a winner."

Photographer Scott Hammond captured some of them in action.
