Rebecca Forgesson was last night named as 2012 Dux of Marlborough Girls' College at the college prizegiving, in Blenheim.
Sonia Ginders was named proxime accessit, or second to dux.
The top two academic awards for the year were presented by college principal Karen Stewart, who praised both students.
"They are just stunning," she said. "Both have been prefects and have done stunning jobs in terms of leadership."
Rebecca has been one of two academic prefects this year and Sonia has been the student representative on the college board.
They both also won many awards. Rebecca received the principal's award for academic achievement, the Marlborough Old Girls' Association prize, the Marlborough Old Girls' Association Trophy, the Sumantha Mukherjee Memorial Cup for level 3 chemistry, the Rocco Cup for mathematics with calculus, the Young Cup for physical education, and the Physics Cup for top student in science.
Sonia receives the principal's award for academic achievement, the Marlborough Colleges Old Girls' Association prize for proxime accessit, the Leov Cup, the Myrtle Currie Bequest for English studies, the Lorena Cowen Memorial Cup for graphics, the Media Studies Cup for journalism, statistics and modelling.
