The plot: Four houses have been moved off the site of the new Redwoodtown Countdown, at the corner of Weld St and Alabama Rd, in Blenheim.

The site of the new Redwoodtown Countdown supermarket in Blenheim has been cleared and levelled ready for construction to start.

The supermarket site is at the corner of Alabama Rd and Weld St. T H Barnes chief executive John Smithies is managing the project.

He said the plans for the 3500-square-metre supermarket had been finalised.

The building consents were being submitted to the council today.

Construction could begin early next month or in January, depending on how long the consent process took, he said.

House removalist Gerard Coffey has removed four houses from the site.

Two houses have been relocated to Canvastown, one to Seddon and the other to Park Tce, where a house was razed by fire in March.
