The Woodbourne Tavern in Renwick was converted into a shearing shed for a speed shearing competition on Friday night. The event attracted about 20 competitors including two Marlborough shearing gangs and shearers from Canterbury and the North Island. About 200 people showed up to watch.
Lyle Windleburn of North Canterbury won the senior section with a time of 34.96 seconds, and Daniel Edwards of Te Reinga, near Gisborne, won the veteran competition with 26.56 seconds. Publican Richard Marlow plans to make the competition an annual event.
