Marlborough Boys' College dropped their first set of the competition but remained the only unbeaten president's grade team after round four of the Marlborough Volleyball Club's Fairweathers Senior Summer League on Thursday night.
Up against Kinoaths, who were playing their second match of the night at Marlborough Lines Stadium, MBC got off to a strong start and forged ahead to take the first set 25-17. However, Kinoaths bounced back quickly.
Thanks to a much improved defensive effort and their ability to capitalise on MBC's high error-rate, they levelled the game, winning the second set 25-14. In the third set, it was back to basics for MBC, who dug deep to seal the 2-1 victory 25-19.
Earlier, Kinoaths faced Treefellas in the first president's grade match of the night.
Treefellas powered away to claim the first set 25-14.
However, a stern team-talk at the changeover boosted Kinoaths, with the second set point-for-point until they edged ahead in the final stages to square the match 25-21.
Unfortunately, that resistance was shortlived and Treefellas were stung into life in the third set, sealing the 2-1 result 25-12.
In C grade, MBC Junior A, Westmeat Geriatrics and Smashed 'Em Bro were all 3-0 winners, while MIA beat Desperate Housewives 2-1.
