Man flees on trail bike
A man caught on a Tuamarina property by the owner escaped on a trail bike on Wednesday night, police say.
Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said the property owner had been alerted to a white Suzuki trail bike with no registration plates parked near a shed on his property.
He went to check it out and, while he was looking in the shed, he heard the bike start up.
The owner saw the man, who was not wearing a helmet, take off along the Tuamarina Track about 8pm. He was described as stocky, with shoulder-length hair and a beard.
Police are reminding people to make sure their properties are secure and to report any incidents as soon as they happen.
"We rely on the public to report any suspicious incidents," he said.
The incident is one of many reported during the past month.
Last week, police urged rural property owners to make sure all buildings and vehicles were locked after seven cases of suspicious behaviour reported in a two-week period in the Renwick and Rapaura Rd areas.
