Hospital staff warned
The Nelson Marlborough District Health Board is telling its staff at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim not to say anything about a death at the hospital that police are investigating at the request of the coroner.
The board sent staff a letter on Friday telling them not to talk to anyone about the case being investigated and setting out the processes being followed.
The doctor involved in the case being investigated stood down after a patient died in May and remains on paid leave.
Board chief executive John Peters has confirmed the death is being investigated by the police, the Health and Disability Commission and the Medical Council.
Both the board and police have refused to release further information on the investigation, including the scale and scope of the inquiry and the parties involved.
