Teen injured at motocross event
A 14-year-old Renwick boy is back on his feet after being flown to hospital on Saturday afternoon when he came off his motorbike and was hit by another competitor at a motocross event in the Waihopai Valley.
He had been competing in the 150cc motorbike race in the 12-16 age group at the Croads Honda Peter Brown Memorial Motocross at the Throne Track.
The Renwick Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to the crash about 4pm and helped transfer the boy to the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter.
He was treated by a paramedic for possible neck injuries at the scene and on board during the flight to Wairau Hospital, in Blenheim.
A hospital spokeswoman said the boy was treated and discharged later that day.
Marlborough motocross commentator Craig Douglas, who was at the event but did not see the crash, said the boy was back at the track yesterday helping with the clean-up.
