Awatere Valley schoolgirl Alice Satterthwaite was just pipped from winning top place at the national merino judging competition at the Canterbury A&P Show on Friday.
Alice, who was runner-up to winner Natasha Petrie of the Mckenzie Country, said competing was much more stressful than at the Marlborough A&P show in Blenheim the previous weekend.
The crowd was much bigger, judging was of rams rather than ewes and she had to talk through a microphone, she said.
Alice took home a $200 prize.
