Another title for Sullivan
Joseph Sullivan's year of rowing success continued at Marlborough Lines Stadium tonight when he was named Marlborough Sportsperson of the Year for the third time.
Sullivan's win was arguably the easiest for the judges to decide on in the 46-year history of the award following his gold medal performance at the London Olympics in the double scull event with Nathan Cohen.
Not only is the Picton Rowing Club star Marlborough's most successful sportsman, he's also one of New Zealand's best, having won six successive world titles which include his win in London, two elite crowns and three under-23 gold medals.
More than 300 guests attended the awards dinner in Blenheim tonight, at which fullbore rifle shooter Sam Teeling won the most promising under-21 sportsman title and Black Sticks New Zealand women's hockey co-captain Kayla Sharland was guest speaker.
