Fathers, children enjoy Active Dads day
An Active Dads Marlborough day at Eco World brought 165 men and children to the Picton aquarium on Sunday.
Active Dads organiser Jodie Griffiths, of Blenheim, said it was good to see so many dads, granddads and male caregivers enjoying a family day out.
"Active Dads is encouraging dads not to be part-time but to make a conscious decision to be with their children," she said.
The group had over 200 dads on its database and organised two or three free events a month including parent education, she said. After bridge funding from the Social Development Ministry, it was looking for private sponsorship. Only Marlborough and Southland had Active Dads, Mrs Griffiths said.
Grant Ingersoll, of Blenheim, said he enjoyed the incentive to put everything else aside to spend time with 4-year-old Lucian.
Jason Elsmore, of Blenheim, said visiting Eco World with his three children as part of a group was fun. Meanwhile, his wife, Rebecca, enjoyed some peaceful shopping in Picton.
Cam Keown, of Rapaura, said this was a good way to spend time with his son, Lachlan, and grandsons Archer, 3 and Rab, 2.
Blenheim dad Rod Gwyn won a draw for an electronic child-sized BMW.
