Unusual wares at popular market
If you haven't started your Christmas shopping yet then you don't want to miss the annual Blenheim Lions Club Mistletoe Market this Saturday.
Now in its 35th year, the market will feature a huge range of stalls spread around the town centre streets of Market St and it's side streets, Queen St, High St, Main St and Market Square. Marlborough District Council's pocket park development, Davidson Place, has meant that stalls now extend much of the length of Market St.
According to event co-organiser, Judy Brownlie, there will be "all kinds of stalls like crafts, jewellery and plants, and we also have some really good food stalls this year. One stallholder will be bringing their pizza oven, too.
"There will be a lot stuff for sale that you can't usually get here."
The market, which has become something of an institution in Marlborough, is also a fundraiser for the Blenheim Lions Club with between $5000 and $6000 being raised in previous years. It is hoped that this year will also generate around the same amount, which will be used by the club for the various charity projects they support.
Entertainment will be provided by the Marlborough District Brass Band, who are offering their services for free.
"The band has been a regular feature of the market and give it a great festive feel," Judy said.
She added that she had been impressed with the eagerness of stallholders to sign up again. The market is from 9am to 2pm.
