Christmas for a cause: Marlborough Hospice is looking festive this Christmas thanks to the voluntary decorating expertise of Ann Betts, left, and Jonel Clemett. They, along with friend Pip Griggs, have spent hours creating the Christmas wonderland, timed to coincide with the Pre-Christmas Peek hospice fundraiser on Sunday

Excitement is building as volunteers and homeowners get ready for visitors as part of the Marlborough Hospice fundraiser, A Pre-Christmas Peek, which takes place on Sunday.

Fundraising and events co-ordinator Sandy Inwood said yesterday tickets sales "could be better" but she was confident there would be a last-minute rush from people who wanted to attend.

"This is Marlborough, and I have to admit to not having my four tickets already. People keep saying they're getting them, but they haven't yet.

"It would be nice if people would get them now, but I'm quite confident there'll be a rush on Thursday and Friday."

Tickets for the self-drive tour of eight decorated private homes and one winery cost $50 and are available from The Hospice Shop, McRae's Fashions, Raupo Restaurant, The Chocolate Shoppe, McGlashen Pharmacy, Thomas's, Mayflower Studio and Springlands Pharmacy.

Mrs Inwood said there would be some tickets available at Raupo on Sunday morning, as there were always some people who wanted to see what the weather was like on the day.

Volunteers had got together on Monday night and worked out their plan of action for the day, she said. Homeowners were getting everything ready for the visitors they would be hosting.

"They're amazing, opening their houses for all these people tracking through their houses. It blows me away what people will do for the hospice.

"It is a wonderful cause, so that's why they do it."
