Baby due for Honor and Dan Carter
Jimma Dillon says he is delighted that daughter Honor and her All Black husband Dan Carter are expecting their first baby.
The couple were the focus of national media attention almost a year ago when they married in a private ceremony at Timara Lodge, in Marlborough, on December 9.
The former Black Sticks striker and her All Blacks No 10 husband announced the news to thousands of followers on Mrs Carter's Twitter account yesterday. "@HonorCarter is 21 weeks pregnant! We are both very excited about being parents."
They hashtagged the post #BabyCarter and father-to-be Dan Carter retweeted the news.
"Thought it was time to share our exciting news," he wrote.
Mrs Carter's father, Jimma, of Waikawa, said his daughter had announced the news to him about a month ago and he was "chuffed".
"I'm delighted, of course I'm delighted, and Honor and Daniel are very pleased," he said.
The couple said they delayed announcing their news because she was worried about the media attention, he said.
"We are private people . . . we like to lie pretty low."
Mrs Carter is in Auckland, where she works for Lion Nathan Breweries, while Carter is in England with the All Blacks during their European end-of-year tour, but is out of play with an Achilles injury.
Within an hour yesterday, the couple's announcement had been retweeted more than 800 times by their almost 120,000 Twitter followers.
