A person was taken to Wairau Hospital with smoke inhalation after a fire in Blenheim on Saturday night.
Senior Station officer Nigel Botham said two fire trucks were called to the fire in Cleghorn St about 10pm.
The fire, which took about 30 minutes to put out, damaged about 20 metres of fence and the edge of a garage.
St John ambulance took one person to Wairau Hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation, Mr Botham said.
Firefighters were also called to put out a bonfire in Pitchill St just after midnight yesterday, because of the risk it could have spread in the high winds, Mr Botham said.
