A Marlborough teenager in the same choir as New Zealand's Got Talent winner Clara van Wel says she is "too down to earth" for her success go to her head.

Marlborough Girls' College head girl Olivia Sheat, 18, sang with Clara, 15, in medal-winning school choir Bella Voce and said Clara had huge support from the choir and the school.

"I voted for her and one of my friends voted for her six or seven times. There was even a sign up at school telling people to vote and giving the number to do so."

Everyone she knew thought highly of Clara as a person and a musician, Olivia said.

"I basically think Clara is the most lovely person you will find. And her song writing and singing skills are amazing for someone so young.

"I think she will have a huge career."

A status update on Clara's official music Facebook page thanked her fans for voting for her and attracted 1100 "likes" in 18 hours. She also received hundreds of messages from well-wishers congratulating her for her win.
