Marlborough teenager Clara van Wel starred on the most watched television programme in the past 10 years, TVNZ said yesterday.
TVNZ's head of TV One and TV2 Jeff Latch said more than 930,000 people tuned in on Sunday to watch the last episode of New Zealand's Got Talent, which 15-year-old Clara won.
With 51 per cent of the available audience watching, the show achieved a massive 22.9 per cent rating among all New Zealanders aged 5 and over, he said.
"Since New Zealand's Got Talent debuted in September, an average of 1.4 million Kiwis have tuned in to watch each episode. Before Sunday night, there had been over 854,000 streams on TVNZ On Demand for the series."
The figures from Neilsen TAM include all shows except one-off and special event programmes, he said. Mr Latch said Television New Zealand never doubted the show would be a success.
