Fundraising event will suit Lindsay to a tee

Fundraising can be a laborious task sometimes - but not at the Awatere Rugby Club.

They have a golf tournament fundraiser scheduled for January 19 at the Awatere Golf Club and already the banter is under way about who is going to do what to who.

Kurt Lindsay organised the tournament last year and didn't have time to play, but this year he's swapped roles and will play in the two-person team ambrose tournament.

A prop forward for Awatere and the Marlborough Red Devils, his rugby talent, by his own admission does not transform on to the golf course.

"I'm a slogger.

"I try and hit the socks off it.

"I play about a dozen rounds a year but I really should stick to rugby."

The Harcourts Real Estate agent said people were already talking themselves up and he only expects the pressure to ramp up for bragging rights closer to the tournament.

Fundraising and having a great day of fun and camaraderie is the aim of the event. There are plenty of prizes to be won and an auction afterwards with mouthwatering food such as lamb, venison and crayfish among the lots, as well as a rafting trip down the Clarence River, and wine.

It's $50 per two-person team and anyone who wants to enter can do so by emailing or phone 5757321.
