176 for dinner at Johns

Forty crayfish, 10 turkeys and 30 kilograms of ham were on the menu at John's Kitchen in Blenheim last night for the thirteenth annual John's Kitchen community Christmas dinner.

One hundred and seventy six diners were served by a team of volunteers who had been working hard all day to prepare the feast, which included egg and waldorf salad, with Christmas cake and pavlova.

Organiser Yvonne Dasler said the number of diners were similar to last Christmas: "Blenheim is a low wage area, there is a lot of need here. But we are a caring community. This is a place where everyone belongs."
