Intersection the scene of two accidents
St John ambulance crews attended two accidents at the Middle Renwick Rd-Bells Rd intersection near Marlborough Airport on Saturday.
Acting Sergeant Paul Webber, of Blenheim police, said a vehicle had done a U-turn in front of a west-bound vehicle on Middle Renwick Rd about 3.20pm. The driver appeared to have failed to make sure the lane was clear.
The 32-year-old woman driving the van was taken by ambulance to Wairau Hospital.
Three hours later two cars crashed at the same intersection. A 52-year-old woman with neck and knee injuries, a 19-year-old woman with shoulder and leg injuries and a 20-year-old woman with hand injuries were taken by ambulance to Wairau Hospital.
All three were treated and discharged.
Bells Rd resident Marion Gardiner said this was a dangerous intersection.
A significant hump on Middle Renwick Rd, meant a driver sitting in Bells Rd facing St Leonards Rd could not see traffic to their left. "When you come out from the stop sign you can be halfway across before you see an approaching car, unless you move out fast," she said. "It would not take thousands of dollars to knock the top off the hump."
Mr Webber said he was aware of the hump.
