The House of the Rising Sun just might pop up in Picton next year as international rockers The Animals are tipped to hit town.
The management of The Animals, best known for their gritty bluesy 1960s hit The House of the Rising Sun, is negotiating with Le Cafe owner Peter Schoni to include his cafe in an October tour of New Zealand by the band, minus original frontman Eric Burdon.
Mr Schoni said the cafe would need to sell about 150 tickets at $50 each and he was judging interest before committing to a deal.
"The manager was a little worried about the size of the place, but where else can you find a personal venue in Marlborough willing to take on this kind of show on a Monday night?"
Mr Schoni could not confirm who would replace Burdon, who has not featured regularly with the band since a brief tour in the 1980s.
Drummer John Steel is likely to be the only original member and has stuck with the band for most of the past 50 years.
