Blenheim Airport recorded the highest temperature in New Zealand on Christmas Day, with 32.1 degrees Celsius, and high temperatures continued into Boxing Day.

The thermometer at noon yesterday stood at 29C in Blenheim, according to MetService, but many people throughout the region recorded higher temperatures in their backyards.

Rachel Rodger recorded 36.8C in the Waihopai Valley, while Robyn Carter recorded 34C in Renwick.
