Smith relishes concert tour
Kiwi songstress Hollie Smith is looking forward to "getting a sweat on" when she heads on tour with a string of other well-known New Zealand artists for the 2013 Villa Maria Winery Tour.
The 17-show tour, which comes to Blenheim near the end of next month, features Fat Freddy's Drop, Anika Boh & Hollie: Together in Concert, a collaboration of Anika Moa, Boh Runga and Hollie Smith, and The Adults, another lineup featuring Jon Toogood, Julia Deans and Shayne Carter. New Zealand's Got Talent winner, Marlborough's Clara van Wel, will join the nationwide tour as special guest.
Smith is excited about heading on her first Villa Maria winery tour. The rapture of touring and performing live music for the 27-year-old North Shore born musician is a welcome prospect.
"Every performance is different, every audience is different and every energy you get from each performance is different," Smith said.
"It's going to be fun sharing it - and getting a sweat on."
The self-taught independent artist began songwriting at the age of 11 and has sung professionally since she was 13.
As a career, making music was hard work, said Smith.
"I'm not living the dream - well, I am but it's a lot of hard work for not much return. It's not as easy as it looks, but it is amazing doing something that I love for a job, so I am blessed," she said.
