Blenheim rates well

Blenheim was rated as the 20th most desirable destination in the South Pacific in the Travellers Choices for 2012 on the online forum tripadvisor.

Blenheim was one of 11 New Zealand destinations to make the top 25, narrowly beaten by Taupo in 19th place.

Sydney, Australia, scooped the top spot. The highest-ranking New Zealand destinations were Queenstown rated in third place, Auckland fifth, Milford Sound sixth and Christchurch seventh. is a website with more than 35 million traveller reviews from 30 countries.

Destination Marlborough general manager Tracy Johnston said the ratings reinforced the power of word of mouth as a marketing tool and the importance of an internet presence.

"Online customer reviews are influencing travellers' decisions on where they stay and what they do," she said.


Marlborough accommodation also rated strongly in the 2013 Travellers' Choices. Hillsfield House B&B in Renwick was named the Travellers' Choice Winner 2013 in the South Pacific category for the second year running.

Blenheim B&B Radfield house was the third most popular in the Travellers' Choice 2013 in New Zealand.

Travellers gave good feedback about bargain accommodation in Marlborough, with Gateway Motel Picton taking the top spot in the Top 25 Bargain Hotels in New Zealand.

They were followed by Brydan Accommodation in second place, Linkwater Motel in eighth place and Knightsbridge Court Motor Lodge in 15th.

Gateway Motel and Brydan Accommodation also made it in to the Top 25 Bargain Hotels within the South Pacific category.

Brydan Accommodation featured eighth in the Top 25 Small Hotels New Zealand lineup and 12th in the South Pacific.

The newly refurbished Scenic Circle Hotel Marlborough was rated 14th of the Top 25 Hotels in New Zealand.
