A vehicle was seen driving at low speed clipping a power pole, fence and the side of a house on Girling Ave, Blenheim, on Thursday, police say.
The driver got out of the vehicle and his passenger took over driving.
Police were called and processed both drivers for drink-driving.
The first man gave a positive reading 2 times the legal limit of 1071 micrograms per litre of breath and the second driver gave a positive reading of 541mcg per litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mcg.
The second driver was also disqualified from driving any motor vehicle.
A 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with excess breath alcohol, third and subsequent, driving while disqualified, and careless driving in the early hours of Friday morning after a member of the public rang concerned about his driving on State Highway 1. The man was driving a work ute and crashed into a bank. He was bailed to appear in the Blenheim District Court today.
