The man who barricaded himself in a Blenheim motel room and threatened to blow himself up has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment.
Judge Richard Russell ordered the assessment for Gary Ramon Neville Green during a hearing at the Blenheim District Court today.
Green, 40, unemployed of Nelson, was excused from appearing in court today.
Judge Russell remanded him until February 25 so the report can be done, although lawyer Rennie Gould said the report may not be completed in that time.
Green is facing charges of recklessly damaging a motel room, wasteful deployment of police and possession of a glass bulb for smoking methamphetamine after the incident in the motel on January 30 as well as four burglarly charges from incidents in Nelson.
