Private jet flies mystery visitors
We've hosted a few celebrities latelyCATHIE BELL
Fresh from having Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet and new husband Ned Rocknroll pass through Picton, Marlborough Airport hosted a private jet yesterday picking up customers on their way to Queenstown.
The Cessna Citation jet, based in Christchurch and owned by charter company Pacific Jets, did not spend long at the airport and quickly had its passengers heading on their way south.
Airport company staff said they could not say anything about the passengers and Pacific Jets did not return calls yesterday.
However, high-end tourism operators have told the Marlborough Express in the past that "your hair would curl" if people knew just how many foreign rich-listers, royalty and top level politicians visited Marlborough for holidays and business.
New Zealand has hosted a few celebrities lately.
As well as Winslet and Rocknroll visiting Marlborough after clothes shopping in Masterton with Kiwi movie director Sir Peter Jackson and travelling across Cook Strait by Interislander ferry, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and his luxury superyacht Octopus are believed to have been visiting southern ports, including Timaru and Fiordland.
Just who these visitors were yesterday, with their expensive-looking fashion and accessories, we don't know.
