A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Blenheim after police saw him accelerating heavily three times on Market St.

Constable Andrew Holdaway said the teenager was driving a BMW about 6.20pm on Wednesday. He had been charged with unnecessary displays of acceleration and the car had been impounded.

The charge fell under the "boy racer" legislation, Mr Holdaway said.

The man is to appear in the Blenheim District Court on Monday.

A 17-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday in relation to an historic assault. She had been charged with common assault and given a pre-charge warning before being released.

Meanwhile, police were called to a house on Maxwell Rd, Blenheim, where two women and their families were arguing over an old television. Police separated the families and trespassed the visitors.
