Paua and coconut chocolate
Kaikoura kids got the unusual treat of chocolate for breakfast on Monday morning when the TVNZ Breakfast crew rolled into town as part of their nationwide tour with Cadbury's chocolate.
A group of hardy souls braved the early start to join weatherman Sam Wallace at the seal colony, get their faces on TV and be in to win a year's supply of chocolate. They also brought along some unusual ingredients for the Cadbury's chocolate challenge.
As one might expect, crayfish and paua were both on the menu and four different chocolate bars were invented on the day thanks to the imagination of Kaikoura residents: caramelised pear, paua and coconut; crayfish and lemon; lollies and lavender; and roasted walnuts and marshmallows.
While all of the bars actually tasted surprisingly good, the winner of a huge treasure chest of chocolate was down to the luck of the draw, with Haylee Te Huia-Claxton unlocking the supply in the end.
