A vehicle swap involving a car and a van turned sour when the van owner took off with the car before the deal was done, Blenheim police say.

The owner of a 1992 red Honda Integra car arranged to meet the owner of a van outside the A&P Showground in Maxwell Rd, Blenheim, last Friday, Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said.

The men then swapped vehicles to take them for a test drive, with the understanding they would meet the next day to exchange ownership papers, Mr Holdaway said.

When the owner of the Honda, valued at $1800, took the van for a drive, he decided it was not worth the swap. But when he tried to get his car back, the other man would not bring it back, Mr Holdaway said.

Police would like to hear from anyone with information on the whereabouts of the car.

Anyone with information should contact Blenheim police on (03) 578 5279. Anonymous information can be given by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
