Marlborough will get extra police staff following a pledge to increase officer numbers in New Zealand by 10 per cent over the next four years.

The $503 million package, which included increasing police staff and resources across the country, was announced on Thursday.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said an additional 1125 police staff would be hired, and all regions would get extra staff.

Bush would discuss with district commanders and his team about where the new staff would go.
