An 84-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after the car she was in collided with another car in Blenheim this morning.

The accident happened at the Weld St and Muller Rd intersection about 9.40am.

Sergeant Mike Porter, of Blenheim, said the 84-year-old woman was driving east on Muller Rd when she failed to give way at the Weld St intersection.

A woman driving a green Nissan sedan was driving north along Weld St when the car she was in and the Nissan car driven by the elderly woman collided.

Both women were checked out at the scene by St John Ambulance.

The 84-year-old was taken to Wairau Hospial, in Blenheim, while the woman driving the sedan did not need further treatment.

Both cars were extensively damaged and needed to be towed.

Mr Porter said police were grateful to the public for their help after a neighbour and another driver came forward after witnessing the accident.
