A Blenheim man has been sentenced to nine months' supervision and ordered to pay $200 reparation for assaulting a woman.
Stuart Andrew McNicholl, 32, admitted the charge when he appeared in the Blenheim District Court on Wednesday.
The court heard how McNicholl and his partner argued while shopping at New World, in Blenheim, about 7.40pm on January 29. The argument continued as they drove toward a Dillons Point Rd address.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Graham Single said McNicholl stopped the car and slapped his partner in the face, then slapped the woman again after they arrived at the address.
McNicholl's lawyer Rob Harrison said the arguing was a two-way dispute, with blows going both ways.
Judge Tony Zohrab said the offence was a relatively low-level assault, "although I have the luxury of saying that when I'm not receiving it".
He ordered McNicholl to undergo alcohol and drug treatment and complete an anger management course.
