A 62-year-old woman was on her way to hospital for a fractured wrist when the car she was in almost drove off a bank in Picton today.

The accident happened in Dorset St, Picton, about 11.45am.

Blenheim St John operations team manager Rebecca Lee said the woman had a possible fractured wrist and abrasions from a fall down stairs at a Picton house.

She was being taken to Wairau Hospital, in Blenheim, when the car she was in glanced off a bank, crossed the road and came to a stop over the side of a steep driveway.

The woman and the driver were not injured in the crash.

Picton chief fire officer Wayne Wytenburg said a tree stopped the car from going further over the bank.

Firefighters stabilised the car by securing it with rope so it would not go further, he said.
