Public meeting in town
A GNS Science seismologist will be in Seddon tonight to talk to residents about the earthquakes this week.
A large team of scientists have been investigating the quakes and aftershocks rattling the region since Friday morning's 5.7 magnitude tremor.
A string of earthquakes at the weekend culminated in a 6.5 magnitude quake at 5.09pm on Sunday.
Seismologist Matt Gerstenberger will provide an overview of what the team knows and answer questions from the community at the Awatere Rugby Club rooms from 7pm.
GNS Science has confirmed that Dr Sarb Johal, clinical psychologist and associate professor at the GNS/Massey University Joint Centre for Disaster Research, will also be at the meeting.
Dr Johal will give a 10-15 minute presentation after Mr Gerstenberger, covering some psycho-social aspects and addressing any questions.
The meeting is expected to be well attended given the public interest already generated on GeoNet social media pages.
GNS Science has been asked if the presentations can be recorded.
National MP for the Kaikoura electorate Colin King will also be at the meeting to answer any queries about making insurance claims.
