Insurer opens up to quake-hit areas

AA Insurance has begun accepting new business in Marlborough and Wellington again after the magnitude 6.5 earthquake nine days ago.

Most insurance companies put an exclusion zone in place around the central region after the quake to protect themselves from greater losses.

IAG, which trades under the NZI, AMI and State Insurance brands, also agreed to reduce its exclusion zone yesterday. It will now accept new business everywhere except Wellington, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Marlborough for the time being.

EQC has received 2526 claims, a third from Marlborough and the rest from the Wellington region.
