Speedsters caught on SH1
Police have clocked a speeding driver doing 155kmh on State Highway 1 during an operation targeting speed.
The week-long operation ended on Sunday and had aimed to reduce speeding between Picton and Kaikoura on SH1.
Police conducted high visibility patrols and compulsory checkpoints as well as breath testing every stopped driver.
Senior Sergeant Peter Payne said no driver was busted for drink-driving during the operation.
Almost 400 vehicles were stopped during the operation and police issued 96 infringement notices. Forty of those were for speed offences.
Mr Payne was disappointed one driver was clocked doing 155kmh in a 100kmh speed zone. "They're not only putting their own lives at risk but they are endangering other law-abiding road users," he said.
He was happy no drink-drivers were found and said more high visibility road policing operations were planned.
