Dam alert 10.30am
Water is flowing smoothly out of the earthquake-affected Haldon dam near Seddon now that a second cut has been made in the earthworks about 11.30am this morning, the Marlborough District Council says.
Council Assets and Services Manager Mark Wheeler said there was no sign of scouring and everything appeared to be proceeding well.
An evacuation plan has been in place in case of dam failure.
Marlborough Roads and its contractors are on call so that roads and bridges crossing Starborough Creek below the earthquake-damaged dam can be closed if necessary.
Water levels are being monitored and, if everything continues according to plan, it is likely that alerts will be lifted later today, Mr Wheeler said.
